Council of East and Central African Football Association, CECAFA, has set the 2009 Senior Challenge Cup kick-off date for November 28. Kenya will host the championship for the first time since 1994 when Tanzania beat Uganda 4-3 on penalties to lift the cup after a 2-2 stalemate in normal time.

The regional soccer governing body's secretary general, Nicholas Musonye, confirmed that all member countries have been informed of the kick-off date. The tournament final will be held on December 13. Kenya Football Federation is considering hosting matches in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.

Their plans will be confirmed next month. In a report posted in The New Vision, Musonye said that they had decided on the dates pending final negotiations with a prospective sponsor based in Kampala.

The official explained that CECAFA were persuading an Arab company based in Kampala to fund the games. But the prospective sponsor is insisting on staging the championship in Kampala.

"We are still negotiating and we shall inform you when we finalise the deal. If we have to change the venue, we will do it," Musonye said.
