Although Somalia is experiencing one of the most dangerous security situations it has ever faced, the Somali Olympic Committee has done more since the recent election of its executive in Djibouti and that has attracted the attention of young Somali athletes in Europe who praised the Somali NOC president and his committee.
Ismail Mohamed Omar, who wears number 10 for the Somali expatriate soccer squad in Europe, told reporters in London on Wednesday night that the nation’s history will mention the tangible activities by the Somali Olympic Committee since its 5th election congress held in Djibouti in March this year.
"I really praise the Somali Olympic Committee president Aden Hajji Ieberow (Wiish) and his entire Olympic family members and as a Somali expatriate football player in Europe I say with a loud voice that now we have a good and transparent leadership and I am hopeful that the Somali Olympics Committee will step into further development," the young player added.
"The Somali NOC leadership has for the first time in its history launched a very sophisticated bilingual website and we hope the website will soon become the largest sports encyclopaedia in the country. We are very proud of this website because it encourages the young athletes wherever they are," the footballer stated.
"The priority given to the Somali expatriate sporting community in the west is also another important matter to be mentioned because we are Somalis and for the first time we as Europe-based Somalis will have voting rights in the future Somali NOC elections and we are happy to play our role in developing the nation’s sports," he added.
Ismail said he was very hopeful of meeting with the Somali NOC president Aden Hajji Ieberow (Wiish) and his high level delegation who are currently visiting the Somali sporting communities in European nations.
