The eighth congress of the Somali Football Federation (SFF) has
elected a new executive committee during the session held at
Mogadishu’s Sahafi International hotel on Monday 19th of July 2010.
According to a communique issued from the congress, the president re-elected Mr. Said Mahmoud Nur heads the new executive committee, which will be in office for a-four-year term from 2010-2014.
Authorities from the Somali Youth and Sports Minister and the Somali Olympic committee who spoke to the media after the SFF congress said they were quite jubilant at how democratically the congress took place.
The Director General of the Youth and Sports Minister Saa`id Mohamed
Abokar said that his ministry was congratulating the SFF and its
stakeholders for the free and fair elections.
"As being responsible for the Somali government I hereby confirm that we are fully welcoming the outcome of today`s election and we are making it clear to the international football family that the Somali government is happy with what has occurred here and has accepted the outcome of the congress," the Director General said.
For his part, a representative from the Somali Olympic Committee Mohamed Ali Ado who witnessed the election congress told reporters
that what he witnessed was the most ever free and fair sporting election in Somalia.
"I have nothing more to say, but I am telling with a loud voice that a good job has been done and that the Somali Olympic Committee has recognized the outcome of the election which was held in accordance with the international football standards," the Somali NOC representative stated.
"On behalf of the president of the Somali Olympic Committee I
congratulate the new SFF executive board and I urge you to redouble the national task and the responsibility you have embraced for the whole Somalia," he added.
"The Somali NOC is happy that for the first time in football history, we see members from the regions and associations in the SFF executive
committee and that is very mentionable," the Somali NOC official said.
The re-elected president Said Mahmoud Nur said that in the past his federation had done a very hard task while experiencing one of the most difficult situations in Somalia and still he and his elected
executive committee members are ready to continue the job.
Nur said that after many years of setbacks, the structure of the SFF was completed and that is one of the major achievements approached by
the SFF.
The president appointed Somalia`s first ever football team captain Mohamed Qalaf Aden Shangole as his advisor, with the congress lauding the appointment of the country`s football veteran as the advisor to the president.
For the past four years during which Mogadishu has been experiencing nearly daily-armed confrontations, the SFF has missed at least 14 beloved football administrators including an executive committee member Ali Hussein Kariye, an international football referee Abdi Abdulahi, football club chairman Abdi Gafar Abduklkadir and ten players including nine young people who were being trained under the Somali football youth training program when a stray mortar landed on their training base on 13th of January this year.
